The electricty grid is a wonder of the world. There’s a perception that it delivers electricty (electrons) to homes and businesses like water flowing through a pipe. But that’s not how the grid works. The grid is an enormous electromagnetic field, covering the entire country, which actually surrounds the wires, it’s not inside them. That EM field *is* the grid that the energy moves through. The EM field is a living thing, constantly pulsing with changes in energy flow. If a large power station generates energy, it causes the entire field to pulse, instantly (at the speed of light), as that energy is transferred to all places more or less instantly. It’s not a process of firing electrons down the lines. The people who figured out how to do this are some of the smartest who have ever lived. Never do electrical engineering unless you want your brain to hurt. Here’s another amazing fact - the grid pulses at a frequency of 50 Hz. That means the wavelength of the electrical energy is about 6000 km. The entire continent is covered easily by a single wave of energy.
