I’ve been using FSD this week on my long commutes. It’s remarkable, the most calming and relaxing drive, knowing you have a system doing the driving that is paying attention in eight directions and across multiple dimensions, over 30 times per second. No human can do that, no matter how great they think they are as a driver. It also removes that competitive rivalry that dominates human driving on the roads, cars racing each other in various ways, and the aggression of fighting for their position on the road compared to other vehicles. That’s status games, as always. All of that on-road rivalry disappears. It’s the least spoken about but most profound effect of the shift. Humans play status games everywhere, including when driving. It’s why many speed up when being overtaken, they feel they’re losing their position and status on the road. Most road safety is preventing these status games. FSD strips them away completely.
