This flocking behaviour has a beautiful name - murmuration. Murmuration is when individual and group behaviour is indistinguishable. The thing I call the mystery of the ‘we’, and of patterns. Watching the patterns of society is the same. Science admits it has little idea how it all works, but I think murmuration is telling us there are no individuals and groups. All individuals are already groups, all groups are made up of individuals. Society is a murmuring, the ‘we’ murmurs.
