Wanted to share this about HIV, because this is the huge risk we’re taking with Covid. On the left, the ‘primary infection’ (both graphs) is the point you catch the disease. Like when you get Covid right now. But the real story is only just beginning. I’ve circled in red the ‘clinical latency’ period where the virus takes up residence inside you, sometimes for years or even decades, and you don’t even know it’s there. What it can do during that time though is destroy your immune system, the bottom graph shows the disastrous destruction of key immune cells during that latency period. The outcome of that of course for HIV was AIDS, and death. We have plenty of worrying signs that Covid is doing something similar, causing enormous stress to the immune system and hanging around long after you catch it. It took 8-10 years for most people with HIV to start to notice this damage. We’re seeing it inside a year, with Covid. And notice the huge surge in other infectious diseases, some not seen much for decades. That’s immune system damage. And people are piling on infection upon infection. Most people with HIV caught it only once.
