Many of us lived the transition from social networking online, which was integrated with our physical communities. To social media, which ‘feeds’ you a version of social life, with no connection to your physical community. Look at the hopeless job the eSafety Commissioner has in regulating these sewers - the platforms refuse to even answer her enquiries. Social media is not community. Its genius is to make it LOOK like it is. It ‘feeds’ you a version of community generated by algorithms and slot machine techniques, that generate fights. Fights generate activity, and activity generates revenue. It’s destroying our communities. Many now think the socials ARE their community. There is no other version of community life. It’s a hijack.
