Some say people are a mind in a brain in a head, on a body. I see people in a very different way, as a combination of beliefs and desires. What they believe is the more fixed part of them, and what they desire is the more changeable part of them. Humans even project their beliefs and desires into the world - their beliefs become 'facts' and their desires become 'forces' or 'energy'. Also, beliefs and desires are shared: a person's beliefs for example may seem individual - their 'opinions' - but are part of a community of people who share those beliefs. The same with desires.
