Clive Palmer tried to do a 'Trump' in the Australian election. He didn't succeed for himself, though definitely strongly shaped the outcome by strip mining disaffected voters and delivering them to the LNP as preferences. (The LNP is still deluding itself it won because of its policies, the day of reckoning is still coming.) I wonder if the reason Australia avoided a Trump or a Boris Johnson, for now anyway, is compulsory voting.
