For Doctor Who fans who haven’t seen this first of the new specials, no spoilers. But in terms of personal impressions - it’s appallingly bad. More a crusading piece for trans culture than a Doctor Who episode. I grew up in the androgynous 1970s, people played heavily with gender roles. They didn’t turn each variety of that play into an actual identity. It’d be like Harrison Ford living his life as if he actually is Hans Solo. It’s a role, not an identity. Social media creates a universe where people collapse that distinction, turning every fantasy into a reality.
