Mob rule is the addiction to moral panics. Look around and you'll see these appear continuously, at the moment it's Teslas and Elon Musk, a while back it was supermarkets and Qantas, etc. There will always be a moral panic now, which will last a varied amount of time. Sometimes days, sometimes weeks. The real function of moral panics is to find a scapegoat for a current social tension, and by destroying it (or trying to), to release that tension. That doesn't end anything, a fresh moral panic appears straight away. Rinse and repeat, forever, especially with social media. https://spsp.org/news/character-and-context-blog/puryear-social-media-doomscrolling-moral-panic
