Was at a tyre workshop chatting to the owner while they were working on my tyres. We were talking about tyre wear on EVs, which can vary depending on how you drive, the road surface etc. He said ‘it’s just that they’re so much heavier.’ That meme has done the rounds of social media for years. Many used it as a reason to argue EVs were also wrecking the roads and should pay more (another meme). It’s rubbish. The Tesla with me weighed about the same as a Toyota Camry, and far less than most popular combustion SUVs and utes. It exhausts me in public and work life now. Everything is a meme, repeated as if it’s people’s own ideas. Nearly all of it is bullshit, on whatever topic. Social media has hijacked our entire culture.
