In a year that included all the ‘Swasticar’ social media-driven nonsense, this is a remarkable triumph. The Model Y is engineering genius, the Model 3 too (it gets much less attention). Again, this has nothing to do with being a ‘fan’ of a brand, I’m not a fucking teenager. It’s about backing the smartest and best engineering out there, as the Drive panel found too, to quote them: “The future of driving technology today - The Tesla Model Y brings science fiction to your driveway. An incredibly well-packaged and well-equipped, affordable family car that opens the door to the future of driving technology.” The engineering won here, it was just too good. And once you buy the car, you don’t have to wait for a new model to get improvements, they download into the car all the time. It’s insanity to still be buying petrol and diesel vehicles today, except for those living very remotely or needing regular remote off-roading (but even those niches are now being filled by electrics). They cost a fortune to run and maintain, are gutless compared to electrics, and pollute the air we all breathe, while turning towns and cities into nothing but constant noise.
