Supply and demand. Hay has gone past $300 a bale, with the current lack of feed for farm animals. People will reflexively say "that's just supply and demand". But what does that mean? Doesn't it just mean people are profiteering off others' misfortune? No amount of demand for hay will create a fresh supply of it, in the current environment. And while the theory goes that increased demand will lead to increased supply, there's no reason price has to go up, except if people are robbing other people.
