It’s maybe a sign that things are starting to swing around that they’re talking about raising the dole, after decades of bashing the unemployed as bludgers. If a bludger is somebody receiving government money while doing no work, the boomers as an entire generation are two laps ahead of the unemployed, and have been this whole time. They’re getting truckloads more from the government than the dole, for nothing. A few prominent boomers in this piece saying exactly this, so it’s not about envy, it’s about corruption and social justice, and making sure societies actually work. Just hoping some other boomers get their snouts out of the trough long enough to take notice. (They may not see it, they may be on one of their regular overseas jaunts, funded by the taxpayer.)
