Utopia hit a vein by focusing on infrastructure. But it’s interesting to think about why infrastructure has become such a political issue. Maybe because most of the wealth of the country has been channelled to the old, away from social infrastructure mostly used by the young. Schools, trains, water, electricity - all those and more are living off investment from 50 or more years ago, while tax dollars are increasingly shifting to tax "relief" for the wealthy and retired. And because in an ageing society, most economic growth is immigration, fresh young people to do the work of supporting old people. They need infrastructure to do their jobs.
