In China, social media is heavily regulated, and some platforms (like this one) are not even available. Our patronising hubris in the West says that’s because they’re ‘authoritarian’ and ‘censor’ speech. Read what these platforms do to countries and then ask yourself if (again) China is a much better role model for us than the US, the home of most of these wrecking ball platforms? China isn’t censoring speech. It’s censoring oligarchs. Musk and Zuckerberg regularly tell our elected leaders to fuck off. Nobody elected Musk or Zuckerberg. They’re the next Rupert Murdochs, running the world and hiding behind free speech to do it.
