Who cares what people think? This is our delusional idea of democracy being ‘the people’ running countries. Most wouldn’t have a bloody clue on this question, or most questions of public policy. And nor should they, they have their own jobs to do. All this does is produce the most popular answer. There’s no connection between popularity and reality, it’s all just trending feels and vibes, driven by status, people cheering for their own team in the social battles. How is it not obvious that none of us can be expert in even a fraction of the things happening in a society? Adding up all of our individual complete ignorance through elections and polling just produces a steaming pile of ignorance, and status battles.
