This post from an English guy who’s lived in China for many years, comparing it to the UK again on a trip home, shows in stark detail why I post so often about China here. Our thinking about China is based on stereotypes, many of them blatantly racist and from the Cold War, and on an image of the country that’s about 150 years old. China is building the modern world, while in the West where we build pretty much nothing now, people are fishing from bridges to have anything to eat. We go to gigs while they train engineers. Just look around, ask yourself, what are we building or creating here? I’ll wait.
