One of the most famous hypnotic inductions is arm levitation, where a person's arm begins to lift without their apparent will. I think hypnosis is absolutely real, and absolutely not a 'trance' or any of the usual explanations given for it. Here's how to make your arm levitate... To do it, make it lift while you're doing something else. Simultaneously - it *must* be absolutely simultaneous. So if you're watching TV, keep your attention fully on the TV, but raise your arm at the same time, as if you were reaching for something, without for a second taking your focus off your TV program. You should find it seems to raise all by itself, because you're not 'doing' it, you're watching TV (or whatever).
