I’m always up early, about 4.30am. I love early mornings. Today I’ve been listening to the beautiful gentle rain here, that has been falling for hours. It makes me think about information I saw yesterday about other parts of the inland suffering an increasing drought. Lithgow cops a lot of cheap shots. But it’s one of the smarter places to live, with climate chnage impacts increasing. Spared the destructive weather and sea level rise of the coast, but also the parched drought and extreme temperatures further inland. That extra bit of altitude helps. When drought beckons, every town West of here eyes Lithgow’s better water reserves. They talk openly about the need to pipe it inland, to them. There’s never a suggestion of ASKING Lithgow for the water, just an arrogant assumption it’s theirs to have. The water wars are coming. It will get very nasty, very fast. You don’t survive long as a town, without water. Building dams won’t fix anything. All dams empty in droughts. Buying a bigger walllet doesn’t give you more money to put in it.
