Conservatives like to paint the ‘we’ as bureaucratic nanny state interference. The Left likes to paint the ‘we’ as the greater good. Both of them are arguing inside the same framework of ideas, separating ‘I’ and ‘we’. All battles - every single one - are battles of ideas. This idea is the root of all of our current political problems I think. Until we get back to ideas and question basic assumptions, like I and we being separate, nothing will change.
