The modern idea of 'events'. Bringing large crowds of people together. It's always felt a bit forced to me, like the only thing that will bring people together now is some type of personal entertainment. Even in my lifetime people used to join community groups (Lions, Rotary etc.), which had wider social aims and undertook community projects. Churches the same. Now those are all in decline, replaced by events.
