I’d almost forgotten that I once taught at South Sydney High School, when training as a teacher. I had no idea Heartbreak High was filmed there, I might have realised if I’d ever watched it! It was a nice school. The main challenge with educational reform is that schools are valued by the community mostly as childcare, and universities allow teaching to be almost entirely at the discretion of individual academic staff, who often outsource it to casuals anyway.
