Roy Hill mine (owned by Gina Reinhart) takes delivery of a 100% battery electric-powered long-haul locomotive. By using regenerative braking, it will charge its battery on the 344 kilometre downhill run from the mine to the port facility and use that stored energy to return to the mine, starting the cycle all over again.
