The Da Vinci Code was one of the biggest selling books of all time. The root of the stories is Gnosticism, which is one big reason I think the book sold so well. We say we live in a secular world, but even the most atheist among us usually live as Gnostics; we’re as religious as at any time in history. We maybe don’t always recognise the religion we follow, as religion, but many seemed to feel it in this story. (Nearly every book that has sold more than this one in history is also Gnostic. My two cents - Gnosticism is extremely dangerous.)
