Great piece from Ian Verrender about why the idea of drilling for our own oil, to try to solve the fuel crisis, is complete idiocy. We’d have less than a decade of fuel if we did it, and it would cost a fortune to extract and refine, meaning it would also cost a fortune to buy and use. Also no need to rebuild refineries, there’s no oil for them to use. Australia is a global energy superpower. Renewable energy. The people obstructing that basic truth are destroying the country and your children’s future. And the rest of the world will now lead with renewables, throwing away our natural advantages. We invented modern solar panels, for fuck’s sake. China produces enough solar panels every year to replace 1000 coal-fired power stations. And the rate of production is accelerating. They learned how to make them, from us.
