Another provocation, a genuine question, for the travellers among us. Venice. Completely overrun by tourists. So bad, that the locals are planning to move out. Some projections say there will be nobody living there by 2030. It will become a theme park, empty except for tourists. You can SEE Venice right now, on Apple or Google Maps, and in millions of other photos online. If you insist on ‘experiencing’ it instead, let’s unpack that. Say your friend has a partner you find highly desirable. Does that justify you ‘experiencing’ that partner, shagging them? Of course not. But that’s how we act as travellers, with places. We think our desire to experience them must be satisfied.
