Chinese cars are already dominant in Australia. Fleet sales make it look like older Japanese brands are, but they’re not. Ordinary Australians are already buying more Chinese cars than anything else, because they’re superbly engineered cars at unbelievable prices. There’s still a racist belief in some that Chinese = crap. We went through that racist nonsense with Japanese cars last century, when they first arrived. They now dominate our sales, and are superb quality. The traditional car industry is now dead, including the Japanese brands. They can squeal about how petrol and diesel are still players all they like. It will just accelerate their collapse. This is how humans always change, the only way, by the catastrophic destruction of the old status quo. They never leave high school and only want to do ‘what everybody else is doing’. They will change when everybody else does, not before. Social conformity. Time to grow up. Yes both of my cars are now American, but the American company that had the bravery to put engineering ahead of social conformity. The Chinese have emulated their approach and their success, and will bring that bravery now to scale, for the world, as the world’s industrial powerhouse. (The Chinese build most of the world’s Teslas too. The only country that can do precision engineering, at scale.)
