Very proud of Molly, who’s about to finish uni with a near HD-average. A wise teacher said to me when I was at school that you can’t judge a kid’s true ability, until they leave school. School is about 90% social status games, and 10% education. Often the kids who win the awards at school have pushy parents, and/or intensive tutoring, and/or are the kids of teachers. I remember that from primary school, where somebody not even in the top 3 was given dux, it seemed because of a close friendship between their mother and the teacher. At uni or in a trade people lose much of that support network and have to show what they can do for themselves. That’s when the real talent shines.
