Good on SBS for its Face Up to Racism set of programmes, and good on Ray Martin for being onboard. Australia doesn't like talking about racism, we're like the Brits, funnily enough. The Anglo world has been the dominant culture, and all dominant cultures struggle to see that dominance themselves. This was a fantastic piece on why the Brits can't shake their obsession with racist jokes about Germans. That's my own history in Australia too, and you get the same mealy-mouthed excuses about it being 'just a joke' here. What's good about this piece is that it points to where the real thin skin is in these jokes.
