Historically tradies dominantly voted Labor, but were skilfully brought over to the conservative side of politics by targeting young men mostly, with fake wars on women, EVs and utes, Greenies and whatever else could be turned into some sense of imagined outrage against them. Tradies are paid to train, and it’s not much but do you know what university students are paid to study? Nothing. They just have debts. They also need cars and tools. Tradies now also earn considerably more on average than uni graduates. HECS was designed because uni graduates were said to earn more. The conservatives who run these narratives don’t care about tradies, women, Greenies, or anything really, except their own elite social group, in the leafy suburbs of our capital cities.
