The EV not only measures how much energy is used on a trip, if you’ve driven the road before it has a memory of your last trip there. Every little peak and slope on this graph corresponds with a different part of the topography of the road, which the car knows ahead of time to calculate an extremely accurate projection of your range. It also calculates the existing wind conditions, temperature, road conditions as they impact on tyre resistance, etc. and their impact on the projected range. It includes little notes under the graph about those details after each journey. Combine these details with the Tesla battery at home analysing and managing home energy generation and usage, and you get incredible automated energy and cost savings. I looked yesterday and it’s costing about a dollar a day to run the EV, and that’s with a commute between Bathurst and Lithgow 2-3 times every week.
