Life is a high school (not an analogy). If you think back to where each person (including yourself) sat in the social hierarchy of school, track just how often people retain this same status throughout the rest of their lives. Outsiders usually remain outsiders. Queen Bees and Prom Kings usually stay that in their jobs and adult social lives. Followers remain followers, bullies stay bullies. More than anything else in school, that’s what you learn. The social structure, and how the different roles ar expected to interact with each other. None of it is explicit teaching, but it’s the dominant thing learned in schools. We then take that and use it to build adult life too. It’s almost impossible to escape it. Try observing your work and adult life more generally through that filter, nothing will ever look the same again.
