Bialowieza forest in Poland is the last remnant ancient landscape in Europe. It’s an astonishing landscape. Herman Goering planned to turn it into a hunting playground for Nazi supermen. It survived so many centuries because it was once hunting grounds reserved for royalty. If you want to see how destructive populism is, a far-Right populist government in Poland recently sent the loggers into Bialowieza. They bulldozed hundreds of thousands of trees before the European courts forced them to stop. If you know any populists, whack them with a bit of 4 by 2, nothing else works.
