The #metoo movement is starting to focus attention not just on assault and abuse, but also on the ways men and women understand desire and seduction. A really complicated area. The ‘bad boy’ phenomenon. Obviously many men over-sexualise their understanding of women, but on the flip side, why do some women like that bad boy? And not just bad, but the man who will ‘look after’ or even control them? The Heathcliff, the ‘strong man’, the guy who gets more desirable the more he treats you badly? And how often are guys like this rewarded by ‘getting the girl’, the same guys who are much more likely to commit the sorts of harassment and assault that’s the target of the #metoo movement?
