Why ultra conservatives win so much. They never ever compromise on their core beliefs. For example, notice as soon as the election was done, the LNP went straight back to those core beliefs. Slash taxes, beat up unions, remove layers of government. They never deviate from these, they only disguise them in different ways, with words like 'aspiration'. Progressives on the other hand have been seduced by the myth of the 'centre', thinking they need to shift their core beliefs to the Right to find the mythical centre. Ultra conservatives invented the idea of the centre, it's a brilliant trick to shift the electorate towards them. So Labor has for years, even in the Hawke/Keating days, been adopting elements of LNP policy, thinking they were moving to the centre. Blair did the same in the UK, it all ended very badly for him.
