Here are some electric Tesla semis, charging at one of Tesla’s truck charging stations. Tesla builds the whole infrastructure when it builds vehicles, including the charging for longer distance travel. The genius of electric trucks is that they don’t interrupt the flow of traffic. They can do the full speed limit up hills, because of their massive and effortless torque. And downhill they don’t even need to use brakes, they use the descent to regenerate the battery, like freight trains do. They’re doing the same speed as cars, with no need for lots of gear changes to get up and down the hill. This also makes life enormously easier for the driver, much less physical wear on them from all the gear changing, and the cab also allows them to stand up and stretch. These trucks also have Tesla’s semi-autonomous driving technology, to make the long trips truckers do much safer and less wearing for them, and safer for other vehicles on the road. And their maintenance costs are far lower than for diesel trucks. And they don’t blast cubic metres of filthy diesel particulates into the lungs of people nearby.
