Trump and others hate what they call the ‘Deep State’. Sounds scary! All it means is the professional civil servants that actually run countries, who annoy popularly-elected dickheads who can barely tie their own shoelaces. All those years of slagging off ‘red tape’ and ‘bureaucracy’ are coming in to land now. That’s what the cost of living crisis, the public health crisis, the collapse in education and our environment, in our roads and other transport, are. People are going to discover much too late to save them that ‘red tape’ is what was making their lives peaceful and prosperous and healthy. Without the red tape, people just go to war with each other. That’s my job every day, watching that up close. Nobody goes to work to create more red tape. The red tape comes from trying to stop people fighting each other.
