It's hard to get people to see the magnitude of the emergency climate change is, because they're focused on daily weather rather than climate, and mixing up heat and temperature. For example I'd bet very few would guess that Sydney just had the longest run of days over 20 degrees C - 184 days - in 110 years. All the rain and cloud would make many if not most not even realise that. The same with saying global temperatures are rising by 0.5 or 1 degree. People equate that with weather, and think pffft, nothing. But the entire *globe* warming by that amount is a HUGE amount of new energy entering the atmosphere. It's not 1 degree in a particular day, it's the entire atmosphere's baseline shifting upwards by that amount, for the entire year. Imagine the heat it takes to heat the whole atmosphere by even 0.5 degrees. I see this with heat pumps. People are astonished that it can be zero degrees outside, and yet a heat pump can still extract enough heat to easily warm your home, from that freezing air. They can do it at -20C too. Heat is not temperature. Outer space is less than -270C (-455F for the Americans), so zero degrees here on Earth is a COLOSSAL amount of heat, to push us above that -270 of open space. That's what heat pumps access.
