It's not just schools that need to stop fundraising. This lady gets it, fundraising is an epidemic, often being used to fill gaps in services caused by government cuts. My parents always said it wasn't the parents who worked hardest for schools (or their kids) who got any recognition anyway. It was teacher's kids, and kids of pushy parents. I looked at the website of my old school yesterday and even the awards that are given to ex-graduates are dominated by ex-teachers' children, and the now grown up children of the same pushy parents.
