The ‘code’ of human civilisation is imitation. Social media hacked it 3 decades ago, and we didn’t even notice. That’s what a hack is, a deception. Everybody, even distinguished scholars, who felt comfortable in the existing status quo, will fear what’s coming. The same pearl-clutching accompanies all technological revolutions. Right now governments are talking about controls on the same revolution. It’s delusional, you don’t ‘manage’ technological revolutions. That’s the existing status quo trying to retain control. It will be swept away.
