Part of Darwin's beetle collection. Science was part of empire, it 'collected' the world, to categorise it. Placing the world in classifications, and on maps. The voyages of exploration were also mapping voyages, each added to the imperial map of the world. Those classifications and maps are the world we now live inside. Our travel, for example, is us exploring the map. Accumulating sights, like a beetle collection.
