The Olgas, I just flew there in Apple Maps. Cost of AvGas = 0. I don’t usually succeed convincing people of the absurd ideas that run our travel cultures, but I’ll keep trying. Take Australia’s interior, it’s become a hot tourist destination, both domestically and for foreign tourists. Why is it so popular? It’s one of the few landscapes left on Earth mostly untouched by modern society. So, here’s the rub. It’s a popular place to travel to, to get the experience of a landscape relatively untouched by us. Except us travelling there means it’s no longer untouched, by us. So the thing we’re going there to experience is destroyed by us going there to experience it. There is no way to reconcile this hypocritical paradox at the heart of travel.
