Trump was elected by people who feel (usually rightly) screwed by the way countries are being run. So every time a Hollywood star gets up and trashes Trump, I'm sure it gives them a warm inner glow, but it just makes the problem worse. So Meryl's rant was stupid, if the aim is to combat Trump. It will just have enraged and energized Trump supporters even more, and reinforced in their minds that the 'elites' (including Hollywood stars) are on the side of the people screwing them.
