Some of the most solemn drivel in public debates is the stuff on A.I. Artificial intelligence is portrayed as computers becoming brains. Brains don’t ‘think’ either so it’s layer upon layer of drivel. There will never be a thinking machine because thinking is not a separate activity to moving or just doing stuff. Our intelligence has always been artificial. We have always used tools to think, in fact we have very rarely thought anything at all without them. Language is a tool. Pens and papers and books are tools. Songs are tools. Our memories are 90+% artificially contained in books and databanks. Google is a massive collective thought machine, it works so well because it collects the work of millions of people with every search.
