There’s a strange idea that EVs will only become viable when we replace all of our petrol stations with EV charging stations like this one. But there’s a huge flaw in that way of thinking. For petrol and diesel vehicles, a service station is required for ALL driving. But for EVs, nearly all the driving people do every week is easily powered by charging at home. Even just plugging the EV into an ordinary power point for one night will give you 90km of driving, enough for a whole week for many people. There are already around 3500 of these fast-charging stations in Australia, for people travelling away from home. That may not sound like a lot, but remember there are only 6500 petrol stations in the entire country, for over 20 million vehicles. And petrol and diesel vehicles need them to fuel every single trip, even locally. EVs only need charging stations when travelling away from home.
