The older I get, the less driven I am by social life, 'living my best life', all the stuff that gets equated with having a good life. The things that drive me, that I'm passionate about, are understanding things, and using that understanding to solve problems. If you're not treading on toes in your 50s to break things that hold society back, you're not doing your job as a human being, in my way of thinking. Nothing is more interesting or fun. A phrase I've always hated is 'overthinking things', nearly always from people who never think about anything. You should have a degree of authority, knowledge and experience in your 50s that it's your duty to put to work. The young are too inexperienced and anxious to make waves. If 50-year olds aren't questioning and uprooting stupidity, we're all doomed. It's their job. And again, nothing is more enjoyable and challenging than tackling big problems, learning what causes them, and trying to fix them. Travel, parties, gigs - mostly boring for me now. That's a teenager's world. I don't want to be a teenager, in my 50s. I'm like a farmer who never leaves the land, or an artist who works until they're too old to keep going. That's what getting older and using your maturity used to be about.
