I snapped this in Lidsdale on the weekend. It really resonates with me, because it's an old creek bed. Some of the ancient Greeks divided the world into Earth, Air, Fire and Water. I say we're a civilisation seduced by fire, and it's destroying all of the other elements. Fire came from lightning, and then we learned how to start it (not make it - we can only start it). Then we learned how to do 'internal combustion' - engines and furnaces, mostly. The gases they produce are the main reason earth, air and water are now either polluted or destroyed, as in this creek bed, and climate change more generally. A heating, drying, soil-less planet is a planet made for fire. Fire as an element has agency, it's tricked us into doing its work for it, and it's taking over the world.
