Australia’s favourite way to not address a serious problem? Let it get completely out of control, and then call the poor bastards who have to try to clean it up “heroes”. Like calling women juggling families and work heroes. Or nurses working in under-funded hospitals. Or teachers in neglected schools. Or firefighters who talk about emergencies and get told they ‘love being there’. They don’t want to be heroes, they want other people to stop being so bloody stupid.
