One of the most powerful pieces of advice I could give to anybody is to allow yourself to feel the space *between* things. We all perceive things every day, we see, hear, touch things. Our focus is very much on the things, while ignoring the spaces between them. Biofeedback research discovered by accident that when people learn to actually perceive the spaces between things, it immediately dissolves all of their tensions and anxieties, creating enormous benefit to their overall health. That’s because perceiving spaces puts you back into the world again, and out of your head. It relocates your entire body as an entity in space, rather than just some disembodied mind staring out at the world. Try it in everything you do, notice even the spaces between the letters in what I’ve typed. Notice the space between you and the things around you, notice the space of the feelings in your body and the space between the different parts of your body. Those body ones will make you feel a great expansion and release of tension. If you have pain, try to feel the space the pain occupies, rather than the pain itself. That can make even intense pain dissolve.
