Formula 1 is planning something pretty amazing, even if you’re not into car racing. They’re taking their current hybrids (best engines in the world, I may have mentioned, once or twice). But they’re making them even more powerful and efficient, and here’s the biggie - developing a renewable liquid fuel to power them, instead of petrol. Part of that design brief is to make these fuels in a way that they’ll also be able to be used for ordinary cars (a ‘drop-in fuel’, meaning able to be just dropped into existing cars). This could make hybrids genuine rivals for EVs, into the future, as cars wouldn’t need large batteries. Plus hybrids have the best driving performance of any type of car. Will see how it pans out.
